IDENTIFIED OVERSEAS CAP, 4th DIVISION SOLDIER, WITH INK NOTATIONS

Description

Great condition overseas cap, with contractor tag, identified in period ink to Orval L. VanCleave
of Ladoga, Indiana, and “A.E.F. Germany,” a member of Company E, 47th Infantry, 4th Division.
His name is spelled VanCleve on the U.S. Army transport lists. Size is small, probably a 6 ½ or
so. The hat insignia is crooked, but it was that way when I bought the cap, and I’m going to
leave it to the new owner to correct it. VanCleave (1892-1984) is buried in Bainbridge, Putnam
County, Indiana. Thanks for looking.
